Google introduced shopping ads on image search as their latest development in its search advertising product, just ahead of their annual developer conference this week.
Users browsing through Google image search results will be able to see ads for related products at the top of the search results, above organic listings. The ads can be filtered with Google's filter buttons, same as organic images, allowing shoppers to narrow down their search and get redirected to the retailer that sells the product they are looking for.
Why? According to Google, users who search and shop on their smartphones at least once a week see product images as the feature they rely upon the most. The new product ads feature hopes to answer user questions such as how much does the product cost, or where can I buy it from, right from the image search.
According to Google's Monday announcement, shopping ads are automatically eligible to show on image search as part of the Google Search Network.
