Growing Your eBay Business from Scratch & a Checklist to Keep You on Track

You’re starting from scratch - if you have a brand-new store, you have no history and no seller ratings. This needs to change fast! With 175 million buyers on eBay, potential is there as long as you follow this checklist.

Your first objective is to get transactions under your belt, fast. Use your best low-value items to generate feedback and gain trust from eBay buyers.

Becoming a Top-Rated Seller

Now that you’re all set up on the platform, processing transactions and managing feedback effectively, you’re ready to move to bigger things. Sellers with great customer service and products are rewarded by eBay with the Top-Rated Seller programme.

To be eligible, sellers must reach a few requirements:

  • Have an eBay account that's been active for at least 90 days
  • Have at least 100 transactions and £/$1,000 in sales during the last 12 months
  • Have a Feedback score of 100 or more, with at least 98% positive Feedback over the past 12 months
  • Comply with eBay's selling practices policy
  • Meet the requirements for transaction defect rate, cases closed without seller resolution and late shipment rate.  

Becoming a Top-Rated Seller comes with a few benefits such as maximum visibility in search results, 10% discount on final value fees on eBay.co.uk or eBay.ie and eBay Top-rated Seller displayed on your Feedback profile .

 

Now experienced with eBay, how do I take my business to the next level? 

Now that you’re making headway on eBay and you’ve become a Top-Rated Seller, it’s time to think about where you could go from here.

There are plenty of options which will improve and grow your business on eBay, increase sales, ROI and more.  

A great first step would be to find more unique inventory to grow your selection. You will then need to monitor and manage your performance standard to maximise your impressions.

Importantly, eBay is reducing your visibility against the number of defect and late shipping records you have. This isn’t stepped against your seller level. 

Use promoted listings and price reductions to stay at the top of search and to maximise your conversion.

To optimise these you’ll want to add as many item specifics as possible (such as fitment data for car parts & accessories) and use the promotions manager to offer periodic deals and additional value.
